The Workroom

Framers' Workroom is situated in 1800 square feet of well-lit, user-friendly workspace. We offer on-site services such as custom shadowboxes, oval and circle glass cutting, canvas, needlework, and fabric stretching, French matting, painted bevels, and more. On the premises, we stock more than 240 mouldings (wood and metal), 150 acid-free mats in a range of colors and shades, and several types of glass in a variety of sizes. Combine that with the availability of thousands of special order mouldings and mats, and the design possibilities are endless.

Our computerized mat cutter, the Wizard, gives us the option of designing and cutting mats with any number of windows in hundreds of shapes. Not limited to a simple rectangle, we can do circles, ovals, stars, diamonds, rounded corners, octagons, etc. with v-grooves, reverse bevels, and other special effects. We can be as creative as we want with our mat designing.

About Us

Framers' Workroom has been under the same management in the same Tenleytown location since its inception in 1981 providing continuity to staff and customers alike. Gana Browning, owner, has been there since the beginning, and is ably assisted by Production Manager Brian Cognazzo (MCPF) and Night Manager Thomas Morris (MCPF).
Our staff includes artists skilled in different media, professional photographers, woodworkers, and carpenters. Six staff members have passed exams given by the Professional Picture Framers Association, qualifying them as Certified Picture Framers (CPF). In addition, three of them completed additional courses and exams and achieved the distinction of becoming Master Certified Picture Framers. We are the only frame store on the East Coast with that many CPF's and MCPF's.
Management and staff bring their considerable knowledge and practical experience to the workplace. We take pride in the level of service and expertise we provide for any project from drymounting a poster to framing a Chagall to shadowboxing a collection of medals. Contact us about your special project and we'll help you determine the best way to treat your artwork.
